Anthem is Discontinuing My Health Insurance Policy

Anthem Blue Cross has decided that they are going to “discontinue” the health insurance policy that they sold me about four months ago. There is absolutely nothing I can do about it. I feel like the company lied to me, and I also feel like this is a form of “bait and switch”. Those of you who have been following my blogging here on the Families.com Insurance blog already know about how hard I’ve struggled to find health affordable health insurance coverage. In 2009, I lost my job as a teachers aide, which meant that I lost my insurance coverage … Continue reading

Alaska Will Not Create a Health Insurance Exchange

Ever since the Supreme Court decided that the Affordable Care Act was constitutional, there has been a lot of news about state insurance exchanges. Some states are working on their exchange, and others have refused to create one. Alaska is among the states that have decided not to create an exchange. Part of the Affordable Care Act requires state Governors to submit proposals that give details about how their state health insurance exchange will operate. The deadline for that is November 16, 2012. States that fail to have their plans approved by the federal government, and states that choose not … Continue reading

An Affordable Alternative to Pet Insurance

Pet owners know that there is potential that their dog or cat could become seriously sick or injured. There are pet owners who will purchase pet insurance before buying health insurance for themselves, but not all will go to this extreme. Fortunately, Pet Assure has an affordable alternative to pet insurance. Pet insurance is, in some ways, similar to a health insurance plan for humans. This isn’t a perfect analogy, but it gives you a basic idea of what pet insurance is designed to cover. Each specific policy will vary a bit on exactly what is covered, and how much … Continue reading

My Quest to Find Affordable Health Insurance is Finished

I recently got approved for a health insurance policy that I can afford. It has been a long, tiring, frustrating, quest to find coverage after I lost my job that came with employer sponsored health insurance. Here is a quick summary of my journey from uninsured to insured. This all started in 2009. I was working as a paraeducator in a special needs classroom. After working for the school for the required amount of time, I became eligible for their employer sponsored health insurance. I think it was Anthem Blue Cross. It covered both me and my husband. My husband … Continue reading

Why Some Choose Higher Priced Health Insurance

When it comes to health insurance, the majority of people are looking for the most inexpensive plan that they can find. However, a survey of health insurance agents shows that there are times when a consumer wants a higher priced health insurance plan. Why do they want to pay more? The answers to that question are interesting. A study called “2012 Survey of Agent-Carrier Relationships” was recently conducted. It was sponsored by Insurance Journal. It was conducted by Channel Harvest (which is a partnership between Aartrijk and Campbell Communications). The survey asked over 1,500 insurance agents 90 separate questions. I … Continue reading

Approved for Health Insurance, One More Time!

After an impatient wait, I have been given an answer. The underwriters at the health insurance company that I applied for a policy with have approved my application. This is great news! Now, I need to find out what the premiums are going to cost me, because that isn’t very clear. It never is. The hardest part about applying for health insurance is the waiting for approval or denial by the insurance company. This puts a person into a situation where they have done everything they can do, and now, are waiting, powerlessly, for some big corporation to decide their … Continue reading

Health Insurance Approval Letters Should Include Cost of Premium I believe that there should be a law that requires insurers to tell consumers the cost of the premium for the health insurance policy they were approved for right in the approval letter. I … Continue reading

My Insurance Broker was a Big Help!

I am still searching for affordable health insurance. All my attempts to find it so far have resulted in being accepted for policies that were too expensive. Today, my husband and I met with an insurance broker. She was incredibly helpful! At this moment, I have absolutely no health insurance coverage. I am seeking an individual policy. I don’t happen to have the type of job that offers employer sponsored health insurance, (which would be a group policy). I am also seeking health insurance for myself, only. My husband has health insurance coverage through Medicare. Today, we went to see … Continue reading
